Johnson, Embry-Riddle president. more.
Man on a mission: Mark LaPole ('84,PC) keeps the American space program focused on the future
If Mark G. LaPole, Ph.D., ('84, PC) has learned one thing in his years of designing and building space vehicles, it's that a well-grounded approach goes a long way toward exploring the vastness of the galaxy. Over the past 20 years, as program manager for Ball Corporation, LaPole has tackled an array of high-profile projects, including the Hubble Telescope, the Webb Telescope, Deep Impact, the Kepler Mission, Cloudsat and CALIPSO.
Standing at the forefront of human exploration is no small matter. "I believe the work I do is important and it is changing our fundamental understanding of physics and the earth we inhabit," explains the Embry-Riddle Prescott alumnus who received his degree in Aeronautical Engineering. "These are extremely exciting times. We are reaching beyond Einstein now. He would be amazed at what we have achieved"...more | Get Lift online

Dr. Jim Ramsay wins ASSA award
Embry-Riddle is proud to announce that Dr. Jim Ramsay, professor and program coordinator of the Homeland Security degree program at Embry-Riddle's Daytona Beach campus, recently received the highest national award presented by the American Society of Safety Engineers, the nation's largest and oldest professional safety organization.
The ASSE Outstanding Safety Educator Award honors recipients for their contributions to occupational safety, health, and environmental education, to the safety profession, and to ASSE. Among his many roles in ASSE, Dr. Ramsay is currently the chair of the education standards committee, which sets all accreditation standards for safety programs.
The ASSE award acknowledges Dr. Ramsay for a variety of research projects in several industries, in which he designed integrated worksite health and safety programs that have reduced occupational illness and injury rates, decreased absenteeism, and increased productivity. Among his achievements, he received a NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) grant to develop a system that calculates the economic impact of worksite health and safety programs.
