Flight Teams Win Regional Championship, Prepare For National Competition
The Eagles and Golden Eagles Flight Teams from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Daytona Beach, Fla., and Prescott, Ariz., campuses dominated the National Intercollegiate Flying Association’s Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON) regional competitions with overall first place victories. The wins extended Daytona’s winning streak to 31 years and Prescott’s to 28.

Embry-Riddle Named Best College for Veterans in the South

U.S. News & World Report has named Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University its No. 1 Best College for Veterans in the South.

Embry-Riddle is a private university with more than 5,200 students at its Daytona Beach, Fla., Campus and more than 1,850 at its Prescott, Ariz., Campus.

Schools eligible to win this distinction are those that participate in federal initiatives which help veterans and active service members apply for, pay for and complete their degrees. Rankings were split into four regions throughout the country

Embry-Riddle’s Student Alumni Ambassadors (SAA) recently presented a check for $2,314.93 to the university’s annual fund in support of the Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund.

Worldwide Honored with 17 Blackboard Catalyst Awards

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide was recently honored with 17 Blackboard Catalyst Awards for Exemplary Courses, which recognize faculty and staff members from schools, colleges and universities around the world who use technology to create innovative courses for students.

Part of the annual Blackboard Catalyst Awards program since 2000, Embry-Riddle was recognized for designing engaging courses that showcase best practices for users. More than 200 entries were evaluated in peer-review by more than 300 instructional designers. Submissions were judged on course design; interaction and collaboration; assessment; and learner support.

“We’re honored to be recognized by our peers for exemplary courses for the fourth year in a row,” said Kevin Norris, executive director of instructional design and development for Embry-Riddle Worldwide. “It’s also rewarding to know that Embry-Riddle Worldwide’s overall efforts are being noticed on a national scale.”

In addition to the individual course awards, Embry-Riddle Worldwide also received a Blackboard Catalyst Award for Exemplary Institutional Practices in Course Design. This is the first time the Blackboard Exemplary Program gave a Catalyst Award to an institution rather than an individual course.

Embry-Riddle Worldwide faculty and staff were honored at BbWorld®, Blackboard’s annual user conference last week in Las Vegas, Nev.

Course awards were given to faculty members Debra Bourdeau, the late Merrill Douglass, Steve Hampton, Tim Houston, Rick Lawin, Rose Opengart, Tracey Richardson, Donna Roberts, Eugene Round, David Syverson, Daryl Watkins, Mike Wills, Eric Tangumonkem and Dothang Truong. Also honored were staff members Helen Anderson, Felix Brito, Jessica Canfield, Diane Dowhy, Jeff Ferner, Shannon Field, Katy Hendry, Valerie Holmes, Alpesh Makwana, Nancy Moran, Jan Neal, Sara Ombres, Monica Surrency and Anna Reese.
